CHICAGO — Police arrested a convicted felon in the shooting of a Chicago firefighter who was responding to a car fire last week.
Hollis Williams, 29, was charged with four felony counts including unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated battery of a firefighter, according to NBC Chicago.
Police say Williams was arrested Thursday night after ramming a sergeant’s car and running over a police officer’s foot while attempting to flee.
Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said during a press conference that two men were seen shooting at a woman as the 36-year-old firefighter was responding to the car fire, and one off the bullets struck him in the left leg. The firefighter was in fair condition after being transported to the hospital.
Three guns were recovered from the building the two men were seen exiting, and one of them matched the shell casings at the scene, officials said. Williams also reportedly discarded a handgun while fleeing police on Thursday.
Williams is currently being held without bail, and police are looking for the second man involved in the shooting as well as other potential witnesses.
