ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Three New York firefighters were injured battling a three-alarm blaze at a multi-family home on Wednesday night.
Rochester firefighters responded to the blaze at around 10 p.m., and a second alarm was called within two minutes of the first crews arriving, according to WHAM. A third alarm was activated fifteen minutes later, after the fire spread to another residence nearby.
Nearly 80 firefighters in total battled the blaze, bringing the flames under control after about two-and-a-half hours.
Three firefighters suffered injuries, with one being transported to the hospital for treatment, according to Rochester Fire Department Public Information Office Lt. Ryan Fleming. The injuries sustained were minor, WROC reports.
The fire spread through all four units of the multifamily home in addition to damaging a neighboring house, displacing a total of 16 residents. Fleming said the size of the residence and its compartmentalized structure made it difficult for firefighters to navigate.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
