PORT CHESTER, N.Y. — Three firefighters were hurt at a five-alarm apartment building fire in New York on Sunday.
Two firefighters were hospitalized for heat exhaustion and one was treated for smoke inhalation, according to CBS New York.
About 200 firefighters from seven municipalities responded to the blaze at the three-story building in Port Chester, which also spread to a restaurant next door. The apartment building was deemed a total loss and the restaurant, which was about to reopen, was also destroyed.
The landlord of the apartment building said none of the 27 residents were seriously injured.
The Port Chester Police Department said in a Facebook post that a passerby went to the police station to report the fire and that officers were able to evacuate the tenants before the fire department arrived.
“We wish the injured Firefighters a speedy recovery,” the post stated. “Port Chester residents should be proud of their PD, FD and EMS who worked flawlessly together for the good of the Village.”
