NEW YORK — Two FDNY firefighters and one civilian were injured in a five-alarm blaze at a dollar store on Sunday.

Firefighters arrived at the store in Queens within three minutes of the first call and were met with heavy fire conditions, FDNY Chief of Department John Sudnik said in a statement.

“Our units made an aggressive push to put the fire out, but there was just too much fire for them to handle. Commercial fires are very dangerous, there is a lot of stock in the stores and a lot of combustibles,” Sudnik stated. “These are dangerous conditions for our Firefighters, so we pulled them out to a defensive position, we used an exterior operation.”

About 200 FDNY personnel responded to the scene in total, and firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent buildings, officials said. Two firefighters and one civilian were transported to local hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
