NEW YORK — At least 10 firefighters sustained injuries while battling a five-alarm blaze in Staten Island on Monday.
The injuries to the firefighters and one civilian were not life threatening, FDNY Chief of Department John Sudnik said in a statement.

“The fire quickly extended into the adjoining buildings – a total of six buildings eventually became involved,” Sudnik said. “We have over 200 fire and EMS personnel that operated this five-alarm fire.”
The fire was brought under control at about 5 p.m. last night.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
