LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — An ambulance was stolen in Pennsylvania Monday and crashed while being pursued by state police, officials say.
Reading Fire Department paramedics were treating a patient at a senior center late Monday morning and discovered the rig missing when they left the building to transport the patient, according to WFMZ.
The rig was later located in another county by an off-duty paramedic who operates it. The paramedic followed the rig on his motorcycle until Pennsylvania State Police arrived and initiated a pursuit.
The pursuit continued until the rig crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer. A suspect, Raymond Gonzalez, 34, was taken into custody and the ambulance was towed. Fire officials say a second ambulance was quickly sent to transport the original patient and their condition was not adversely affected.
