LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. — Firefighters in South Los Angeles had to fend off a man who attacked their fire engine as it was heading to a motor vehicle crash.
The bizarre incident occurred on June 7 near Central Avenue and Nadeau Street, about half a mile from Fire Station 16, NBC Los Angeles reported.
“We were literally responding to a traffic collision and this guy just came out of nowhere, jumped in front of the engine and just started punching it,” Firefighter/Paramedic Andrew Chaing said.
Chaing said his crew had encountered the assailant before. A month or two ago, firefighters found him under the influence of narcotics and transported him to a hospital.
The man was charged with assault likely to cause great bodily injury on a peace officer and battery on a firefighter performing their duties, according to CBS Los Angeles.
