NORWALK, Conn. — City officials said no one was injured following an early-morning house fire Monday on Sasqua Road that left a newly-purchased home unfit for occupancy.

Firefighters responded at approximately 4:07 a.m. to the fire at the 7,000-square-foot home and were met with heavy fire, Norwalk Fire Department Deputy Chief Stephen Shay said in a news release. The blaze, which had burned through the roof, took around an hour to extinguish, Shay said, and no one was home at the time.

Norwalk Assistant Chief Edward McCabe said the fire escalated to four alarms and needed “a tanker response from neighboring towns supplementing the water supply.” The Stamford Fire Department assisted at the scene, Shay said.
