BELLEVILLE, Ill. — A driver who lost control of her car on Illinois 13 in Belleville and crashed into the side of the Northwest Fire Department station was transported to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries.
Northwest Fire Chief Chester Borkowski said the crash occurred at 4:01 a.m. Sunday.
Borkowski said the woman was driving westbound on Illinois 13 when she lost control of her vehicle near the Belleville Judo Club. The vehicle continued through the club’s front lawn, through some trees and bushes and through the fire station’s parking lot before smashing into the side of the building.
It’s about 300 feet from where the vehicle lost control to where it ended up.
Borkowski said Belleville police officers arrived on scene first and were able to get the driver out of the car. She was transported to a hospital.
No one else was injured as a result of the crash.
As for the fire station, “We’ve got structural damage done to that side,” Borkowski said. The building is safe to be in, he added.
None of the fire department’s equipment was at risk due to the crash. The portion of the station that was struck by the car houses offices.
