While filling out paperwork, De Abreu Peclat Dos Santos saw Christopher Broadus, 27, assault a hospital nurse and try to steal an ambulance with a knife.
De Abreu Peclat Dos Santos approached the suspect and, with the help of hospital security guards, wrestled Broadus to the ground.
The MCFRS firefighter-medic incurred minor injuries in the altercation.
“Here you had an assault, an attempted carjacking,” Pete Piringer, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service, said. “I like sandwiches, but I don’t like knuckle sandwiches, and it looks like that’s probably what this guy got.”
Police charged Broadus with first-degree assault, attempted carjacking and disorderly conduct.
