Rescue at San Francisco 3-alarm blaze

One of two people seriously injured had jumped from the third floor to escape the fire

SAN FRANCISCO – Authorities said two people were injured, one of them seriously, early Monday morning in a three-alarm fire between Golden Gate Park and Alamo Square in San Francisco .

The blaze was reported just before 3:20 a.m. at 720 Masonic Ave. , according to the San Francisco Fire Department . Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from every floor of a three-story duplex, which was undergoing renovation.

A second alarm was called at 3:25 a.m. and a third alarm at 3:30 a.m. , authorities said.

Firefighters found one occupant who jumped from the third floor to escape the flames, according to the fire department. The person was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Authorities said a second occupant was rescued from the residence and treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

The fire caused major damage to the home at 720 Masonic Ave. and spread to a pair of adjacent buildings, displacing a total of seven people, according to the fire department.

The blaze was contained at 4:54 a.m. and under control at 6:53 a.m. , authorities said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
