LIVONIA, Mich. — Two fire departments worked quickly to extricate a mechanic trapped between two tractor-trailer tires in Plymouth Township on Thursday evening, officials said.
Livonia Deputy Chief Michael Kelly said they responded to the scene on Pilot Drive around 6 p.m. after the Plymouth Township Fire Department called for assistance.
Kelly said the man trapped was approximately 35 years old and was servicing the tractor-trailer’s refrigeration unit when another person attempted to move the truck — unaware that the man was there.
The firefighters worked for about 40 minutes to extricate the man, who was treated at an area hospital, Kelly said.
According to a Facebook post on the Livonia Professional Firefighters IAFF Local #1164 page, the victim had only minor injuries.
Livonia firefighters helped to perform manual removal of the outside tire on the front axle of the semi, then cut the interior tire and utilized a K12 cutting tool to remove the victim, the post added.
