BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A mother and daughter were critically injured Sunday after a fire erupted in their Brooklyn home, officials and neighbors said.

The inferno broke out on the first floor of a two-family house on Kings Highway near Avenue J in Flatlands about 6 p.m., the FDNY said.

Firefighters rushed the injured victims to Staten Island University Hospital in critical condition.

A firefighter battling the blaze was also injured and transported to SUNY Downstate Medical Center, fire officials said. It was not immediately clear what condition the firefighter was in.

The house is comprised of two units, said a devastated first-floor neighbor who arrived home to find his apartment up in smoke.

“My neighbor’s wife and daughter got burned really badly,” said Muhammad Zia, 35, who lives in the apartment with his wife and three children.

“We ... don’t know where we’re going to go tonight,” said his wife, Amina Zia.

Devastated family members of the injured residents sobbed and embraced one another outside the home Sunday evening.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, fire officials said.
