SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Firefighters rescued a child from a car trapped under the rubble of a possible house explosion on Tuesday, firefighters said.
Eleven people, including children, were hospitalized after the collapse just after 4 p.m. Tuesday at 205 Carbon St. Two of the injured were in serious condition, Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds said.
Early Wednesday morning firefighters released more details about the rescue.

Teams of firefighters worked to free a child who was trapped in a car under the rubble. The child was taken to a hospital, firefighters said. Firefighters didn’t know if the car hit the home, Monds said Tuesday.
Firefighters extinguished fires in the house and worked to shore up the remaining structure. Specially trained firefighters went into the building to search for trapped people. They spent 45 minutes searching and found no one.
The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control in Albany sent a team of search dogs to comb through the rubble, firefighters said. A cadaver dog was brought in by the State Police .
Thirteen people from two families had been at the home before the collapse.
While first responders were working, a National Grid team used a backhoe to turn off gas service, firefighters said.
The possible explosion came during a heat wave. As a result of high temperatures and humidity, crews of firefighters from across the city were rotated through the scene. A Centro bus also served as a cooling center for the firefighters. Off-duty firefighters were called in to work.
Fire investigators and police are investigating the collapse.
