TROY, Mich. — A lieutenant with the Detroit Fire Department was shot and killed Monday night in what officials are calling a road rage incident.
Frank Dombrowski, 55, was driving near his Troy, Mich., home when a white Jeep Cherokee followed him into a gas station.
According to WXYZ in Detroit, a verbal fight broke out. Police said an occupant in the Jeep fired multiple rounds before the car fled.
Dombrowski, a 29-year veteran of the department, died at the hospital.
“We are truly saddened by the loss of our Lieutenant Frank Dombrowski. Lieutenant Dombrowski was a great leader and mentor for the men and women in his command. His contributions will be greatly missed by the Detroit Fire Department and the citizens of Detroit,” Thomas Gehart, president of the Detroit Firefighters Association, said in a prepared statement.
Those in the Jeep turned themselves in to police this morning, WXYZ reported early Tuesday.
