EMMITSBURG, Md. — The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is set to host the 43rd National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 4 and 5, 2024, at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
This annual tribute will commemorate 89 firefighters who lost their lives while on duty in 2023, along with 137 firefighters who passed away in prior years, the foundation stated in a press release.
“National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend is a time for our nation to pause and reflect on the heroic efforts and selfless service of the fallen firefighters we are paying tribute to this year,” NFFF CEO Victor Stagnaro said. “We will always remember the bravery, commitment and sacrifices of each of these 226 heroes and their families.”
Detailed profiles of the 226 firefighters being honored are available on the 2024 Roll of Honor.
During the NFFF Memorial Weekend, the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park will host two public events:
- The National Fallen Firefighters Candlelight Service will take place on May 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET, with Fire Captain Garon Mosby from the St. Louis Fire Department as the host.
- The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service is scheduled for May 5 at 10:00 a.m. ET and will be hosted by actor Jeremy Holm.
Fire service and government leaders will speak to the thousands of attendees at the memorial service on Sunday, May 5. The NFFF will broadcast both events live on their website, YouTube channel and Facebook page.
