EUNICE, La. — A popular restaurant in Eunice caught fire on May 25, which some residents say is a significant loss to the community.

Firefighters worked for hours to extinguish the blaze at Nick’s on 2nd, which reportedly began around 11 a.m. Fortunately, the building was unoccupied at the time, KLFY reported.

The fire department highlighted the many mutual aid fire departments that responded to the fire as well as an “angel in the sky with a crop duster dropping water from the heavens.”

At the height of the fire, the entire block surrounding the restaurant was evacuated, and nearby businesses experienced power outages, KADN reported.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
