NEW YORK — Video recorded at the scene of a residential fire in Stapleton captures the moment two firefighters narrowly dodged roaring flames.
In the footage captured by Michael J. Carrasquillo, the blaze can be seen engulfing a vehicle to the side of the home. As firefighters move about before the front of the property, two firefighters can be seen emerging from a second-floor window onto a portion of the roof.
“Get out guys, get out guys,” someone can be heard saying in the nearly three-minute video.
Black smoke continues to billow from the side of the building as the flames rage on and whip toward the first responders, now in a precarious position.
A ladder from one of the FDNY vehicles on the scene begins to extend toward the structure, a first responder manning the edge. Meanwhile, another ladder is positioned against the building, offering an escape.
One of the firefighters steps down the ladder as the blaze leaps to the home. The second firefighter follows suit and slides down the ladder, the flames just feet away.

Smoke engulfs the façade of the building as firefighters man a hose and begin to douse the blaze with water.
As the smoke begins to part, it becomes evident that flames extended well into the home; the smoke pouring out from the front windows.
Sirens can be heard growing louder as emergency vehicles approach the site.
Around the two-minute mark, water shoots out from a hose while a truck ladder simultaneously positions itself.
In all, 25 units consisting of 106 FDNY and EMS members responded to the fire at 14 Quinn St.
The second-alarm blaze was first reported around 1:25 p.m., according to an FDNY spokesperson.
The FDNY reports that the fire originated in a garage and extended to the residence. Although no injuries were suffered as a result, the structure sustained extensive damage.
“It was a little bit of smoke and probably in about 30 seconds to a minute, it was black smoke and then a giant flame,” said one witness on the block.
The fire was brought under control at 2:14 p.m. and the cause remains under investigation by fire marshals, the spokesperson reported.
