PORTERVILLE, Calif. — A procession was held Thursday morning to escort the remains of one of the two Porterville, Calif. firefighters killed battling a fire at Porterville City Library on Tuesday.
Firefighter Patrick Jones, 25, went missing during the early stages of the fire and was unaccounted for until Wednesday night when his remains were recovered from the building, according to the Porterville Fire Department.
Porterville Fire Capt. Raymond Figueroa, 35, was also killed battling the blaze.
First responders from across the state escorted Jones’ body to the Tulare County Coroner’s Office beginning around 6:20 a.m. The procession was led by Porterville firefighters and participating agencies included the Porterville Police Department, Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, CAL FIRE, Hanford Fire Department, Los Angeles Fire Department and multiple ambulance services. Porterville public transit vehicles also participated.
Two 13-year-old boys have been arrested and charged with arson and manslaughter in relation to the fire.
