KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department announced the sudden death of one of its chief officers.
The United States Fire Administration said the death of Assistant Chief Tommy Lee was due to a heart attack after training. Lee, 82, had participated in physical fitness training with the department on Feb. 19. He was found unresponsive in his garage later the same day.
Lee’s obituary stated he loved serving with the fire department and all firefighters that he considered family. He received many awards and commendations during his career.
