LOUISBURG, N.C. — The Louisburg Fire Department announced the line-of-duty death of Captain Thomas Patterson.

The department referred to Patterson as a great friend, firefighter and public servant.

The USFA reported that Patterson responded to two emergency calls, a vehicle collision and a fire alarm activation on Sept. 12. After the last call, Patterson returned home and was later found unresponsive.

Patterson had over 50 years in the state’s fire service, his obituary stated. He served as captain at the Eastover Fire Department and spent 36 years at Louisburg Fire Department in various roles. He also worked with the Louisburg and Franklinton Police Departments.

Patterson was also a key member of the Franklinton Fire Department and the Franklin County Firefighters Association, where he took pride in mentoring young firefighters.
