The initial story incorrectly included a Facebook post from the department of the wrong fallen firefighter. The department recently experienced two deaths, Fire Police Capt Craig Mullins and Fire Police Officer Brian Peek. We apologize for the error.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A Goldsboro fire police officer killed while directing traffic during a crash on Aug. 9 has been identified as 67-year-old Brian Peek of Newberry Township.

According to the York County Coroner’s Office, Peek was struck by a vehicle at Red Mill Road and Corn Hill Road, WHTM reported.

“Today’s incident is a tragedy in our community,” Newberry Township Police said. “Volunteer emergency responders are a crucial part of public safety system for our community. They selflessly volunteer their time on a daily basis knowing the risks associated with their tasks.”

The Goldsboro Fire Company described Peek as a selfless, devoted member of the fire company and dedicated to his family.

The incident is being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police.
