The Paris Fire Brigade, or Brigade des sapeurs-pompiers de Paris, is part of the French Army and is responsible for being the primary fire and rescue service for Paris and its suburbs.
Leading up to the 2024 Summer Olympics, the brigade has been busy preparing with other agencies for the event. To adapt to the specific variables, such as visitor numbers, activated sites, and events, the brigade has established guidelines for organizing operational responses. These principles ensure rapid, effective, well-coordinated responses, according to the Paris Fire Brigade website.
The brigade adopts four response postures for different phases of the Olympic Games:
- Average Posture: Used during the ramp-up, transitional, and post-Games phases, with a 20% increase in mobilization, involving 2,300 firefighters.
- Reinforced Posture: Activated when fewer than ten competition sites are active, with 2,500 firefighters.
- High Posture: Used when more than ten Olympic sites are active, with a 40% increase in personnel, involving 2,800 firefighters.
- Exceptional Posture: Implemented on July 26, the opening day, with a 50% increase, involving 3,000 firefighters.
