SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Three firefighters were injured Sunday while battling a house fire near Dayton, and one was flown to a hospital, reports say.
Matthew Smith, the assistant chief for the Springfield Fire Department, tells WHIO Channel 7 that the firefighter flown to the hospital reportedly fell down a flight of stairs while trying to get out of the house after being ordered to evacuate.
“They were ordered to evacuate,” Smith tells WHIO. “During the evacuation, there was either a flashover or a collapse.”

The fire took about an hour to put out. The cause remains under investigation.
