WASHINGTON — In a close decision, the Executive Board of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) will not endorse a candidate for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
The decision, passed by a narrow margin of 1.2%, follows a year of extensive efforts by the IAFF to engage its members and gather input on the candidates and key policy issues affecting firefighters and their families, according to General President Edward Kelly.
“We encourage our members — and all eligible voters — to get out and make their voices heard in the upcoming election,” Kelly stated.
The Executive Board emphasized that unity within the union is crucial to advancing the interests of firefighters. The decision not to endorse a candidate was made with the belief that standing together would better position the union to advocate for its members on the issues that matter most to them.
