IRONDALE, Ala. — A firefighter who collapsed while battling a house fire May 31 was released from the hospital Thursday.
AL.com reported that the firefighter will remain off duty for several weeks while doctors complete further testing. “We are being told that he is expected to make a full recovery and could possibly return to work soon,’' Irondale Fire Capt. Brad Doss said.
Firefighters had put out the main body of the fire and were scanning the house for any other flare-ups when the firefighter collapsed, according to the report.
Firefighters started CPR and advanced life support, then took him to the hospital. He was in critical condition for a week before he was upgraded to stable, and then released, according to the report.
“To the public — especially the citizens and businesses of the City of Irondale — the Irondale Fire Department would like to express sincere appreciation and gratitude for the outpouring of support we received during this recent event,” Capt. Doss said. “We, as a department, were truly humbled by the tokens of concern and appreciation that each of you have shown us during the past 12 days. For this, we say a heartfelt thank you.”
