BOLINGBROOK, Ill. — A Good Samaritan picked up a grocery tab for firefighters that were called away to a fire.
WGNTV.com reported that the firefighters typically chip in $10 for groceries every morning to cover their meals at the firehouse. They raise somewhere between $40 and $50 for the day.
They got called away to a fire — twice — as they were ready to check out at the supermarket.
When a firefighter finally went back to pick up the food, he discovered that someone had paid the $50 tab.
The Good Samaritan wrote a note on the back of the receipt thanking the firefighters for all their work.
The firefighters’ union is already paying it forward by making a $100 donation to a local food pantry.
