DETROIT — A new documentary is seeking funding to follow Detroit firefighters as they continue to put out fires and help save what some consider ground zero of the plummeting economy.
A character-driven documentary about Detroit, “BURN” plans to follow “the men and women charged with the thankless task of saving a city that many have written off as dead,” says the movie’s website. This includes not only firefighters but also teachers, activists, and others who are working to better a city whose businesses and citizens have left it in droves.
“Until now, no one has properly explored the city with the depth and detail it deserves,” the site says.
The award-winning filmmakers — Tom Putnam, Brenna Sanchez, and Morgan Neville — have been filming “BURN” since Dec. 2010. They have launched a Kickstarter campaign and have until December 1, 2011, to meet their fundraising goal in order to submit “BURN” to festivals in Spring 2012. The film is currently 95 percent shot and 70 percent funded.
