WILLIAMSTOWN, Ky. — A Williamstown firefighter is recovering from injuries sustained during a house fire where he had to bail out from a window during a collapse.
Helmet cam video of the Jan. 30 house fire shows Firefighter Matt Combs jumping out of a window, with some of his PPE on fire, after being caught in a ceiling collapse and flashover, WLWT reported.
“Matt is coming out of the structure. His gear is on fire,” Williamstown Chief Les Whalen said. “You can see the fire dripping off from his helmet.”
Whalen told WXIX that firefighters had received a report that a person was possibly trapped inside. He said firefighters found that the person had escaped the fire when they arrived.
Combs was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, treated for second-degree burns, and released.
