VANCOUVER, Wash. — Vancouver firefighters spent 41/2 hours combating an apartment fire Sunday night in central Vancouver. The fire displaced seven people from the complex on East Fourth Plain Boulevard.

The Vancouver Fire Department was called at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday to Pacific Crest Apartments, 3700 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., for reports that the building was having electrical problems, according to an agency statement.

Arriving firefighters found flames shooting through the roof of the two-story apartment building.

Tips for managing scene stress

More crews were called to assist because of the size of the building and the fire in the attic. Nine engines and three trucks responded to the blaze.

Firefighters were able to fight the fire from below and stop it from spreading through the entire length of the 16-unit building, according to the statement.

The Red Cross is helping the people who were displaced. No injuries were reported.

Fire District 6 assisted with the firefighting efforts. The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
