SALISBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A house fire in Salisbury Township on Wednesday afternoon prompted a bomb squad response, according to police.

Township police said in a news release that officers were called about 4:20 p.m. to a home in the 2900 block of Meadowbrook Circle for a report of a house fire. When officers got to the home, they found smoke and flames coming from a basement window.

Police used extinguishers to keep the fire from spreading until firefighters showed up. A resident told officials that fireworks and black powder, as well as other chemicals, could be inside the home, according to the release.

The Allentown Bomb Squad was called to make sure neighbors and emergency responders were safe. Once the bomb squad determined the home was safe, the township fire marshal’s office started its investigation into the fire.

The fire is still under investigation.

One firefighter was injured and treated at the scene of the fire, according to police. The Red Cross is also helping those displaced in the fire.
