ANSONIA, Conn. — A woman who tried to steal a Christmas tree from the Hilltop Hose firehouse Friday afternoon reportedly drove her car into a firefighter while fleeing the scene, police said.

The woman’s name has not yet been released. Lt. Andrew Cota said Monday the case remains under investigation and an arrest is pending.

Cota said police were called to the 80 Pulaski Highway firehouse at about 4:30 p.m. on a report of a person trying to steal a Christmas tree. He said at some point the person driving the car struck a firefighter who was in the firehouse’s parking lot.

Cota said she then fled onto Pulaski Highway and struck a large truck. He said the driver fled from the scene of that crash and was later found on Macintosh Lane. Her vehicle sustained serious damage, Cota said.

No one was seriously injured.

Local Boy Scouts are selling Christmas trees in the firehouse parking lot as a fundraiser.
