LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Responders held a commemoration Saturday to remember the Angora Fire on its 10th anniversary.
MyNews4 reported that firefighters, EMTs and police officers attended the ceremony to discuss the fire and the impact it had on the community.
On June 24, 2007, an illegal campfire erupted and burned 3,100 acres and 254 homes, resulting in over $141 million in damages. A total of 2,180 firefighters battled the flames.
The fire prompted responders to improve their fire preparedness. As a result, the Tahoe Fire and Fuel Team was formed, which consists of 20 partner agencies and reduces catastrophic wildlife risk and creates fire-adapted communities.
