Chief Marc Bashoor details what makes this year’s event unique

Taking place each year during the third full week of June, the Firefighter Safety Stand Down highlights critical safety, health and survival issues for fire and emergency services personnel. This year’s theme is Fire Training: Back to Basics. Get resources at the official Firefighter Safety Stand Down website as well as FireRescue1’s Safety Stand Down resource center. The Stand Down is sponsored by the NVFC, NFPA, IAFF, FDSOA and IAFC Safety, Health and Survival Section.

Here, Chief Marc Bashoor details the Safety Stand Down and what makes this year’s event unique.


Chief Marc S. Bashoor is a member of the FireRescue1 Editorial Advisory Board, serving as a senior fire advisor. With 40 years in emergency services, Chief Bashoor previously served as public safety director in Highlands County, Florida; as chief of the Prince George’s County (Maryland) Fire/EMS Department; and as emergency manager in Mineral County, West Virginia. Bashoor assisted the NFPA with fire service missions in Brazil and China, and has presented at many industry conferences and trade shows. Bashoor has contributed to several industry publications.
