SAN DIEGO COUNTY — The Fallbrook Professional Firefighters Association Local 1622 has announced the fifth-annual Stormy McInerny Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded to fire academy recruits and paramedic students.

The award is named after Stormy McInerny, a former engineer/paramedic with North County Fire Protection District, and student and instructor at Palomar College in San Diego County. McInerny retired in June 2019 and passed away two weeks later.

North County Fire Protection District Captain Mathieu Lindsey said, “During McInerny’s career, he left long-lasting impressions on anyone who ever worked with him. One of the traits that Stormy most admired in a person was the ability to not give up when faced with adversity. He always wanted to keep pushing forward and work hard. These students are choosing to enter a very demanding career full of major challenges and will face adversity and be expected to not give up when things get difficult. This scholarship is intended for an individual who emulates the characteristics described above.”

Applications are due Aug. 16.
