WEBSTER, N.Y. — For three days this week, first responders and other community members will mark the 10th anniversary of the ambush in West Webster that killed two firefighters.
An ex-convict set a fire at his home, fatally shot two firefighters and wounded two others on Christmas Eve 2012.
Lt. Mike Chiapperini and Firefighter Tomasz Kaczowka died in the line of duty.
The West Webster Fire Department will host the remembrance activities at Fire Station #1.
That remembrance will include photos and other memorabilia to honor those who lost their lives 10 years ago. That will be open to all first responder agencies on Thursday from noon to 8 p.m.
On Friday, the station will be open from noon to 8 p.m. to the public, media and first responders. On Saturday, the station will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. for the public, media and first responders.
There also will be a 6:45 a.m. Saturday memorial prayer at the West Webster Firehouse memorial.
