Duty Death: Gerardo Rincon - [Salmon]

SALMON-CHALLIS NATIONAL FOREST, Idaho — A 22-year wildland fire veteran died this week while assigned to the Moose Fire in Idaho.
Gerardo Rincon of Oregon was crew boss of a Type 2 crew that was battling the blaze. He was part of the North Reforestation Inc. team.
Early on Sept. 20, he suffered a medical emergency and later died, according to a statement by the forest supervisor of the Salmon-Challis National Forest.
“Tragedies of this nature serve as a reminder of the honorable work and sacrifices made by women and men like Gerardo,” the statement read. “They commit themselves daily to supporting and protecting communities around the country. Our condolences go out to the entire Rincon family, their coworkers at North Reforestation Inc., and the firefighting community, their friends, and all those who knew and loved them.”
A procession is scheduled to escort Rincon’s remains from the Jones and Casey Funeral Home to the Lemhi County Airport at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Funeral arrangements have been scheduled for Sept. 29 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Independence, Oregon.
