MIDDLEPORT, Ohio — Kevin Dailey, a longtime member of the Middleport Fire Department and the Richland Township Fire Department died Tuesday, the two departments announced on Facebook. He previously served as Richland’s chief.
WTAP reported that Dailey, 72, died from the injuries he sustained in a fire truck rollover crash in September.
Firefighters were returning from a call when the apparatus rolled, and Dailey was thrown out of the truck. One of his legs was pinned under the truck. His fellow firefighters pulled him out.
Dailey sustained fractures to the lower leg and had surgery in September.
He worked in the fire service for 43 years, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and all who loved him. Chief Dailey served our community and its residents for many years. His legacy will go on. Rest easy Chief, your shift is over, we’ve got it from here,” the Richland department posted.
“Arrangements are not known at this time. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers,” Middleport posted.
