ALBANY, N.Y. — A member of the Albany Fire Department died over the weekend while off duty, CBS 6 reported.
Firefighter Edward J. Verhoff joined the department in 2006 and served for 16 years, most recently with Rescue Squad – C Platoon.
Albany Fire Department Chief Joseph Gregory said:
On behalf of our fellow brother and sister firefighters, we are devastated to learn of the passing of one of our own, Firefighter Ed Verhoff.
Ed was the consummate professional, serving his community for 16 years as one of Albany’s Bravest.”
A statement from the Albany fire union reads: “Ed’s impact on our union was significant and will be felt for many years to come. Anyone that worked with Ed knew they were going to laugh. He loved the firehouse and loved the guys he worked with.”
Funeral arrangements are pending.
