Former chief, veteran Ala. firefighter dies unexpectedly

Steve Dutton served with both the Boldo and Parrish fire departments and on fire service-related boards

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. — Steve Dutton, a longtime member of the Boldo and Parrish Volunteer Fire Departments, died unexpectedly Saturday.

He served with the Parrish Fire Department and the Parrish community for 35 years or more, according to the fire department. Dutton also was a longtime member and past chief of the Boldo Fire Department.

He served on several boards of directors related to fire departments in Walker County and was also an instructor, according to Boldo Fire Rescue.

“He will be greatly missed,” a Facebook post by Boldo Fire Rescue read.

“He will be sorely missed by all those who knew him,” the Parrish Fire Department posted.

Dutton was an active community member who participated in Fire Safety Week at schools, according to the Parrish department.
