FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A pedestrian was killed early Monday after a crash involving a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department fire engine, according to police.
A crew was responding to a call about a woman who was seen walking in and out of the roadway, 7News reported.
Fairfax County Police Lieutenant James Curry said the woman “appeared to be in some sort of altered state and needed assistance from both police and fire and rescue personnel.”
“Fire and Rescue personnel immediately exited the apparatus and began life-saving measures,” Curry said.
The woman was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Curry said the engine did have its lights on.
