KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman, a man and an unidentified person died after a fire apparatus responding to a call collided with an SUV moving in the opposite direction and then crashed into a building in Westport around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, KMBC reported.

The Kansas City Fire Department truck had its lights and siren on.

Firefighters said that the man and woman in the SUV died.

Firefighters searched through the building rumble Wednesday night.

A witness told authorities that a third person had been walking on the sidewalk near the building when the crash and collapse occurred. Just before 8 a.m. Thursday, crews removed a body from the rubble.

The force of the collision pushed both vehicles into the building, and some firefighters had to be cut out of the truck, Fox 4 News Kansas City reported. An assistant division chief was transported to a hospital, but the firefighters did not have serious injuries.
