TULSA, Okla. – Two people were killed and a woman suffered a miscarriage after their vehicle crashed with a Tulsa Fire Department apparatus yesterday.

A 5-year-old girl and a 23-year-old woman died from their injuries, according to the Tulsa Police Department, which also reported that one of the passengers, a 26-year-old woman, suffered a miscarriage in the collision. Three additional occupants are still being treated in the hospital – a 28-year-old woman, a 4-year-old girl and an 18-month-old boy.

The apparatus was responding to reports of a building fire when the crash occurred. As the fire truck was proceeding through an intersection using lights and siren, a white Hyundai pulled onto the road and the two collided, according to police.

The impact sent the car over the sidewalk into a telephone pole.

The fire crew was not harmed and immediately began rendering aid to the other vehicle’s occupants, using extrication tools to free the trapped occupants.
