ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Members of the Rochester Fire Department hosted a send-off breakfast for youth burn survivors bound for Camp Courage: Summer Burn Camp, rochesterfirst.com reported.
The camp offers a variety of activities, including swimming, arts and crafts, and movie nights, as well as self-esteem and confidence-building exercises.
Having the opportunity to interact with the campers is significant and meaningful, RFD Captain David Abdoch said, as firefighters rarely see fire victims after the initial response.
“We sit there and we just hope the best we can,” Abdoch said. “Go there, help this person on their worst time and hopefully give them the best outcome. We don’t really get to find out what happens after, so being able to see this really, really feels good to us.”
