WEST ALLIS, Wis. — A fire department recently debuted its ATV ambulance meant for trekking over rough terrain to reach patients in isolated or off-road areas.
The West Allis Fire Department said the six-wheel drive vehicle will help responders transport patients who are injured on hiking trails.
“It greatly expands our capacity for going into remote and construction areas,” Assistant Fire Chief Kurt Zellmann told Greenfield West Allis Now. “It can get into some pretty precarious places.”
The smaller build of the ambulance will also allow responders to cut through crowded areas more easily. In a large crowd setting, the ambulance can provide patients with quicker care and more privacy.
The $73,000 ATV ambulance was purchased mainly through grants.
