There were three firefighters inside the 75-foot aerial apparatus at the time of the incident and were rescued by other crew members using ladders, Keyser Assistant Fire Chief Mike Simpson said. He said the truck’s rear outrigger stopped the vehicle from falling completely into the space below.
Because of the bridge collapse, response to the fire was delayed by 20 minutes.
A 44-year-old man was arrested for arson after he allegedly lit items in a home’s garage that spread to the rest of the house.
Fire officials are waiting to hear back from the manufacturer to know how much it will cost to repair the apparatus.
