Fire truck hits utility pole while responding to house fire

All three occupants were sent to the hospital for treatment and were later released with minor injuries

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville Fire Department truck slid off the road and hit a utility pole on Western Avenue early this afternoon, the KFD reported.

At 1:34 p.m., the truck was responding to a small fire at 303 West Bellemeade off Sutherland Avenue. The driver was attempting to make a left turn onto Middlebrook Pike from the westbound lane of Western Avenue when the tires slid on the wet pavement, the KFD report stated.

The truck struck a utility pole. All three occupants were sent to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for observation and have since been released with minor injuries.

Another ladder truck was sent to the fire location and no injuries were reported at the fire scene, the report stated.

The fire was contained to an upstairs living room. The cause was determined to be accidental.
