CHICAGO — Firefighters responding to a two-car crash were under fire when their truck was struck by a bullet.
CBS Chicago reported that an associate of one of the crash victims arrived on the scene and began fighting with someone. A man pulled a gun from his car and began shooting, according to police.
One of the bullets fired struck the windshield of a Chicago Fire Department truck that was responding to the scene.
“As far as Chicago police officers, they’re putting their lives on the line every day, so they expect that, so they’ve got to prepare themselves; but a firefighter coming out to help a car crash, and they’re getting shot? That speaks to a different narrative about how people are thinking with guns,” witness Lamon Reccord said.
One firefighter was cut in the nose by flying glass.
The suspected shooter was taken into custody and the incident is currently under investigation.
