CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Charleston Fire Department christened a new boat on Friday that will help the CFD better serve the community.
The “Louis Behrens” boat was named after the longest serving Fire Chief in the nation. Behrens, who passed away in 1932, served 58 years as Charleston Fire Chief.
“Typically when we think about fire departments and the assets we have, we typically think about fire engines, fire trucks, and what we tend to forget is that we have this whole other community in the City of Charleston and our surrounding area because we have so much water,” said Fire Chief Karen Brack.
