TAYLOR, Pa. — Crews rescued a man from a storm drain in the Stauffer Industrial Park on Monday after he told firefighters he spent three days wandering through the sewer system, the fire chief said.

Firefighters spent about 30 minutes removing the man from a drain in a parking lot at 22 Stauffer Industrial Park, Fire Chief Joe Crosby said. Crews responded at 4:36 p.m. and had to cut through the storm grate after unsuccessfully trying to remove it with a forklift, he said.

The man, whose name Crosby did not have, was aware, talking and appeared to be in good health. He told crews he didn’t know how he got into the sewer and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, Crosby said.

“Was he (in the sewer for three days)? I don’t know,” Crosby said. “He was in pretty good shape for being in there for three days.”
